MACBDA Tour 2010 Photos

Unfortunately, I only had part of a day to spend on the Stampede grounds this year. Here are a few photos that I took.

I would like to thank all of the 'kids' for sharing their fantastic musical abilities and making the tour an enjoyable experience for myself and all of the other chaperones. They should all be proud of their achievements during the tour as musicians and ambassadors of the Calgary Stampede. Their success on the tour can be attributed to their dedication, hard work and the talented and inspirational guidance provided by the staff. Good luck with your performances at the Stampede where I am sure you will continue to make all of us proud. Boyd Kay

The Calgary Stampede Showband won the 2010 MADISONIC competition. The show continues to improve each night. While every section showed improvement, I was particularly impressed with the colour guards' performance. Keep up the great work everyone!

The weather has been ideal. Warm with a nice breeze to help keep everyone cooled off just the right amount. The showband has been working hard at perfecting their field show. Sorry for the delay in posting photos - the chaperones have been keeping almost as busy as the band. Here are some more photos of them in rehearsal.

Everyone took a day off for a little sightseeing in Chicago. This is the chaperone's adventure. The showband members were planning on sharing some of their photos to post but today (June 30) was so busy that nobody had an opportunity to do so.

The band spent the full day refining their show. At the end of the day the chaperones were treated to a full show from the top of the lift. Tomorrow is a day of rest as we head to Chicago for a little sight seeing.

After a thorough shower we headed for competition in Oregon, WI. From where I stood the show looked and sounded great. The crowd seemed to agree giving the band a standing ovation. However, on the way back to the bus I heard a number of the band critiquing themselves and discussing all sorts of things that weren't as good as they thought they should be. At presentation time, the Stampede Showband took 6 of the 7 awards. I guess the kids were right, there is some room for improvement.

Most of the morning rehearsals were in the rain. While the skies may have cleared after lunch the ground wasn't as cooperative. Be warned - if you were at Woodstock some of these photos may trigger flashbacks.

"Are we there yet?". I did not hear those words once during the entire bus trip. The band managed to keep themselves and the chaperones entertained the whole trip with great storytelling, skits, and singing. Here are a few photos as we prepared for departure and during the drive.
